390 km to Santiago

Today we woke up with joy. We’d slept well, and though it had poured overnight, we were warm and dry. Grateful beyond words.

For breakfast, we treated ourselves to Black&Easy coffee with milk – just like at home. Then butter, jam, bread, cocoa, and juice. We ate like we hadn’t in days.

We left the albergue with warmth in our hearts. We won’t forget the hot soup the volunteers made for us yesterday – offered the moment we arrived frozen and tired. That kind of kindness stays with you.

Leaving Carrión, we passed an unusual church and snapped a selfie from the back, catching the façade. Mist clung shyly to the fields on the right. We followed the Via Aquitana, a Roman road once used to transport gold from Las Médulas to Bordeaux. What’s special about it? It’s completely straight – more than 14 km of flat trail.

Fields stretched out on both sides – wheat and yellow rapeseed. The colors were soothing and inspiring. In summer, this shadeless stretch can be brutal. For us, the weather was just right. The only issue: no privacy, no trees, no WC.

The first village after the plateau was Calzadilla de la Cueza, where we stopped for beer and a potato pie. Then it was just a bit further to Ledigos.

Now we’re waiting for dinner, the sun is shining, and our jackets are freshly washed. Just food and bed left.

We hope you’ve had a peaceful and happy Easter Sunday.

Tired but content,
Martina & Ive
