MARTINA ŠAVC
HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN?
I started making piglets as gifts for close relatives and friends. On special occasions they received a pillow in the shape of a pig – my parents even took theirs to the retirement home; moms used them as a support, so that their babies would sleep on side. At first, I only made pink ones, later on blue, green, grey ones and even wild pigs. Now they decorate sofas, day beds and more.

WHERE AND HOW ARE THEY MADE?
The piglets are made in my little workshop in Koroška. Creating them brings me pure pleasure. Each new piglet’s little snout fills me with joy and satisfaction.
Everything starts with tailoring. Each part is cut by hand, including the letters. Then my favourite part begins. I start with sewing the head, stitching on eyes and the snout. The eyes also get pupils with or without eyelashes and the snout gets the nostrils. Then I pin the application (the inscription) onto the body. When everything is in place, I sew the name to the body and start assembling. I add the embroidery and finally I sew the bottom. I joint the body and the head, leaving a hole for the filling. When the piglet is completed, I stitch its belly with a needle. So, here’s how a new piglet is born. I clean it, cut off the threads and, who would have thought, – it’s already made my day. Then it can travel to its new owner.
So, why should one of my little creatures tip toe to you too?
