January is coming to an end. How are our New Year resolutions? We live healthier, we quit smoking, we eat healthier, we lose weight… I don’t particularly like New Year resolutions. I usually broke them all by mid-January. Then I felt guilty, I was angry and I didn’t feel comfortable. Now I prefer to say what I would like to improve regardless of the date, and it is just one thing. If there are too many of them, they somehow get miraculously lost.
And another thing that bothers me. We are social beings, we live together, we meet, we chat, we exchange opinions. When did you last tell your loved ones that you loved them? When did you last give your husband or wife a kiss because you are happy to share your life with them? Did you squeeze your kid in the morning, tell them you were happy they are a part of your life before they left for kindergarten, school? Did you tell your mom, dad that you were happy to be with them, hug them, and feel the closeness that brought you back to your childhood when you felt safe with them? Have you ever embraced an acquaintance, a stranger who was overwhelmed by some bad news and felt the tension coming out of them through your embrace?
In today’s rhythm of life, when we are pressured by obligations, deadlines, let’s just take the time, and tell and show those we value that we are happy they are a part of our lives.
I wish you all the best,
Martina
