640 km to Santiago
We quietly had breakfast and headed out into the still-dark morning. We almost needed headlamps. Today’s stage was said to be peaceful. From afar, we could already see the vineyard
We passed the Irache Monastery, where the former monastic estate Bodegas Irache continues the tradition of winemaking. There’s also the famous wine fountain, where pilgrims can symbolically refresh themselves.
Due to several route options, we accidentally took the longer one today. The trail led us through pine woods and soft forest paths. Slowly, we arrived in Luquin, where we enjoyed a coffee and refilled our water.
The sun was relentless! We walked alongside wheat fields, vineyards, and olive groves until we reached Los Arcos. On the way, we stepped off the path to rest our feet under a pine tree and have a snack in the shade. Then we continued through the heat – it was 23°C.
We finally arrived in Los Arcos and treated ourselves to a beer and some tasty mini sausages. We bought a few essentials for the evening or the next morning.
A sign said 6.4 km to Sansol – but it stretched into 8 km. It was hot, very hot, and there was no shade. By late afternoon, we arrived in Sansol, our stop for the night. We were lucky to get a room – and even treated ourselves to dinner.
We visited a local store to buy butter and yogurt, but many items had expired. In the end, we only found some dry sausages.
The albergue has an interesting backstory (we might share it another time). Dinner included artichoke soup, potato omelette, tuna salad, melon, olive oil, and red wine for those who wanted it.
Around the table, we chatted with an Australian, a Brazilian, an American, four Taiwanese, and us two Slovenians. Great company, great meal.
After 29 km on the sunny side of the Camino, full of curves, good food, and tired legs, we’re showered and dozing off in our beds.

Good night, Slovenia. Tomorrow brings another Buen Camino.
