204 km to Santiago

Today was full of contrasts – interesting and challenging.
We woke up around 6:30 in El Acebo, had coffee from a machine, grabbed bananas for breakfast, and headed back onto the Camino.

The morning was cold, the grass covered in frost, yet nature kept blooming. The rocky downhill trail was tough – and we had to be careful not to hurt our knees. The descent to Molinaseca seemed endless. Sometimes we even had to navigate flooded paths from hidden springs.

In Molinaseca, we dreamed of a big breakfast – maybe eggs and bacon? Well, not quite, but we got a warm bacon sandwich – and it was heavenly.

We chose a route toward Ponferrada that avoided the main road, walking through vineyards and suburban houses. By the time we reached the city, we had already walked 17 km.

In Ponferrada, we visited the Templar Castle and the church, withdrew some cash, and pushed on.

We hoped to find an albergue with laundry and a kitchen, but most were either closed or accessible only via prior reservation.

After 22 km in the growing heat, we finally found a room in Camponaraya. There was no way we could walk another 8 km to Cacabelos.

Now we’re settled in. It’s Sunday – everything’s closed – but luckily, we have our food supplies.

We’re off to have something to eat.
Wishing you all a beautiful start to the week!
