approx. 298 km to Santiago
We could barely get out of bed this morning. But the hotel breakfast buffet was abundant – we ate like kings. Back in the room, ready to leave… and I realize my magnetic sunglasses lenses are missing. We searched the bag, the belt pouch, the room, the bathroom, even the balcony – nothing. I asked the staff – still nothing. So I accepted it, took my backup sunglasses, and we left.
The sun was already up, promising a warm (possibly hot) day. The trail followed the road, then a stretch next to an irrigation canal, bordered by farmland. We saw many storks, and today – for the first time – a colony of nesting crows, or so we think.
Villages came and went. In La Virgen del Camino, we found a shop and bought sun hats. In the next village, we refilled our water supplies – much needed today.
Then came the bad luck. I got a blister from my socks. Ive had worsening issues with a painful pressure spot – nearly infected. We were limping.
The path was monotonous, with barely any places to rest. Only after 16 km did we find a proper place for lunch, rest, and foot care. And guess what – I found the missing sunglasses lenses in my Credencial!
We decided to stop at the next village with an albergue – and that was San Martín del Camino. Fitting, since St. Martin is my patron saint. We’re staying at Albergue Santa Ana – nice people, laundry service, a small store, and a lovely room.
One last note: today’s Camino signage really made us laugh. We saw stones reading: 301.8 km, 300.8 km, 294 km, 298 km, and the albergue sign said 284 km to Santiago – all in one day. 🤷♀️
I use the distances from my Camino guidebook – seems the most reliable (though not always perfect). But the point is – we’re under 300 km now. And we’re proud.
Warm greetings to everyone back home – and thank you for following us.
