316 km to Santiago

We started the day quickly – packed up and made coffee at the machine, grabbed some milk. Then, trying to heat something in the kitchen, Ive triggered the fire alarm. So much for “fully equipped” kitchens.

We drank our coffee, laced up, and hit the trail. We’re cautious with food – always keep enough for at least one meal. The day promised sunshine, and it delivered.

Soon we were walking through fields, reaching Mansilla de las Mulas, where we had a quick snack from our packs. The sun, though, was slowing us down, so we kept moving.

Several small villages passed by, but what stayed with us was the rest stop at Arcahuejo, specially built for pilgrims – with drinking and non-drinking water, a roof for shade, and benches all around. We rested, aired out our feet, and talked about home. Do we miss it? Of course. But we both agreed – better to finish the Camino now than go back and maybe never return.–

Refreshed, we continued toward León. The city’s outskirts were long and draining. We lost track of the Camino arrows but managed, thanks to some Duolingo Spanish, to find our way to the beautiful cathedral. We took photos, enjoyed the moment, and moved on.

We didn’t expect to walk over 30 km today. But we finally found a place in Trobajo del Caminoa hotel! A real bathroom, towels, a hairdryer, a bathtub, a bed for two… What luxury!real bathroom, towels, a hairdryer, a bathtub, a bed for two… What luxury!

Exhausted and hungry, we’re off to dinner now.
Tomorrow, we walk on.
Warm greetings from the Camino,
Martina & Ive

P.S.: I noted down today’s fuel prices – just for comparison. 😄
